THINK ABOUT IT?

Have the world become overly dependent on computers?

Have the world become overly dependent on computers? To my opinion it is yes!!. Why?Many of us have computers, or have used computers.Everything in this world is almost using computers.Computers makes our duties easy and fast. Also me uses computers and also you.Just like cellphones.Cellphone is also a computer. We use it in long distance communication to your family , friends ,or anyone.Cellphone make easy way to communicate with anyone that is away from your location without sending a mail to to an postcard office.Computers also make our transportation more easy and comfortable.

In addition to that, people are using computers to pay bills. In ancient times, people had to go physically to the payment bureau to pay their bills. Internet and credit card transactions can be used to pay bills instantly from the comfort of one’s seat at home, or office. Those looking for jobs and the employers do not need to publish an advert on the dailies to look for an employee with specific qualification nowadays, instead, at the click of a mouse, they can advertise on the Internet on their websites, and the public will get the advert instantly. If computers crash, all the things will have to be turn away to the old way of doing.

Computers also gives entertainment to people to have fun.Just like movies, computer games, reading books in a website and etc.Computers can be  used in educational purpose.Computers also improves our transportation more comfortable and fast.Almost information all over the world is stored in computers. If you don’t know about one thing you will just open your computer and seek about it. People use computers to innovate our world into new evolution.Without innovating will just stock in one evolution.

According to Atkinson (n.p.), computers, on the other hand, are very helpful in society, because they help us move forward faster with much higher pace than we would move without them. The world without computers would have been the same like in the 19th century, before the invention of modern technologies.

Otherwise, being  too dependent on computers also have disadvantage.People are losing their ability to function without a computer. Some people no longer worry about what they are writing or typing because  of using processing program that has spellchecker and checks for grammar mistakes.

So as you can see almost people dependent on computers too much and are losing the  ability to memorize, type, spell, or even write a grammatical correct sentence. In many countries students no longer have to copy notes by hand from the blackboard or notebook; instead the teacher gives them a photocopy. Rather than to write in a paper or in notebook, students present a typed-up copy of their assignments.

Also , people take the benefits of computers for granted and turn it into bad things. For example , young people get addicted and turn brings about harmful consequences , the worst being death and etc.we are  becoming overly dependent on computers and technology. The advance of human technology has  allowed computers to be better day by day from its invention. Computers has allowed crimes to happen like hacking and cyber bullying. I feel that dependence has caused a major impact in our life.

POSSIBLE HEALTH ISSUES

Let say,I’m a manager of an IT firm that operates 24/7 and has more than one hundred employees, mostly programmers. Each employee has his/her own cubicle and normally works 8 hours a day on a shifting schedule

(day shift/night shift).

Each employee works for 8 hours  or more in day shift/night shift everyday.Their job requires long sitting at a computer.Sometimes forget to eat or they will just eat anything do not knowing what they can get from it.Because

of being very busy in their work.In day shift workers they work  so very early.Sometimes they forget  their breakfast in the morning or just refuse to eat because they in hurry. In night shift they sleep so late and sometimes they do not sleep because of so very busy in their works.

Serious health Issues

Insomnia
Insomnia includes a wide range of sleeping disorders, from lack of quality of sleep to lack of quantity of sleep.

CAUSE:

  • Insomnia can be caused by physical factors as well as psychological factors. There is often an underlying medical condition that causes chronic insomnia, while transient insomnia may be due to a recent event or occurrence.

Treatments:

  • Improving “sleep hygiene” – don’t over- or under-sleep, exercise daily, don’t force sleep, try to maintain a regular sleep schedule, avoid caffeine at night, do not smoke, do not go to bed hungry, make sure the environment is comfortable
Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a general term that describes a disease of the heart or blood vessels.

CAUSE:

  • Lack of exercise
  • being overweight or obese
  • smoking
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)

Treatments:

  • Lifestyle Changes
  • Quit Smoking
  • Follow a Healthy Diet
  • Be Physically Active
Cancer
Cancer is ultimately the result of cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programmed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form. Unlike regular cells, cancer cells do not experience programmatic death and instead continue to grow and divide. This leads to a mass of abnormal cells that grows out of control.
     Treatments

  • Surgery
  • chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Immune therapy
Computer Vision Syndrome
Computer vision syndrome is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress injuries at work. It occurs when you’re carrying out the same motion over and over again. Just like those other repetitive stress injuries, computer vision syndrome can get worse the longer you continue the activity.
    Treatments:

  • Adjust your viewing angle
  • Reduce glare
  • Rest your eyes
  • Blink often
  • Get your eyes checked
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed as it travels through the wrist at the carpal tunnel and causes pain, numbness and tingling, in the part of the hand that receives sensation from the median nerve. The mechanism is not completely understood but there are a variety of contributing factors.[1][2] Some of the individual predisposing factors include: diabetes, obesity, pregnancy, hypothyroidism, and a narrow-diameter carpal tunnel. CTS may also result from an injury that causes internal scarring or mis-aligned wrist bones. Occupational causes involve use of the hand and arm, such as heavy manual work, work with vibrating tools, and highly repetitive tasks even if they involve low force motions.[3][4]
      Treatments:

    • Home treatment, such as changing or avoiding activities that may be causing symptoms and wearing a wrist splint.
    • Physical therapy. This includes ultrasound, stretching, and range-of-motion exercises. In some clinics, these therapies may be done by an occupational therapist.
    • Medicines, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. In some cases, oral corticosteroids or corticosteroid injections into the carpal tunnel may be considered.
    • Surgery. Surgery is sometimes recommended when other treatment hasn’t helped, if you’ve had carpal tunnel syndrome for a long time, or if there is nerve damage or the risk of nerve damage.
